Is South America really a safe place to invest?

Bolivia is in the news today because it nationalized some Spanish Power Company's assets. Argentina defaulted some 10 years back, and is still doing legal battle with bond holders. Venezuela nationalized foreign investments some years back and is fighting a 19% inflation rate. Brazil seems like a safe bet at the moment, but who knows?
Why would anyone invest there? Is this what people will be saying about the states in 10 years time?

If you're really wanting to invest in South America, you should try to find people who actually invest in South America. If the situation is good and the numbers work in your favor, then go for it.

no the whole region is historically unstable and given to coups and the nationalizing of foriegn owned corps

the u s is almost there we print money to pay our debts and our dollar is becoming increasingly devalued as the go to currency and our national debt repayment is 46 % of our gdp so there are lots of countries that no longer view the us as a safe place to invest

Very scary. I do worry what kind of a world we are leaving our kids and grandkids....generational theft.
