Is the vulcan salute (live long and prosper) something you can automatically do or can you learn it?

I had to train for six grueling winters... Rocky 4 style... before I could finally do it. It might not seem like running uphill in a blizzard with 100 pounds of logs on my back relates to doing the Vulcan salute... but damn it, man. I give the strongest Vulcan salute this side of the Mississippi. Last time I did it I broke my house.

   You just practice a little. Use your other hand to hold your fingers at first and than your hand will get use to the new movement. It is like anything else time and a little practice will pay off in the end. Live long and proper, or as the old Spock said "Good luck".

   You can either do it or you can't. I do it better right-handed, but I'm not up to Leonard Nimoy standard.

   try taping your pinky to your ringfinger and your middle finger to your index finger and opening and closing your "claw" and that will get you used to the feeling and it makes it easier.
