omg... lol.... i just argued this with a judge and lost....

the vows you make during a marriage mean nothing to the courts or law or state.... for better or worse.... in sickness and health... till death do us part... it mean nothing.

the loophole in the vows are that they are called vows.... it's hot air... it's bs...

in the eyes of the law anyway.

I believe that's the " I will honor you" part

I think the loophole is when they ask "Is there anyone here who objects to this union"

The part where they used to say "cleave to each other and forsaking all others" seemed to cover no cheating in the eyes of the church.
However, if you're a lawyer, you'll find a loophole in everything!

I think that if you didn't recite the vows with a religious belief, I don't really think you took any vows. I think other people who can't honor the vows are probably trying to save their sanity or their life. If you didn't grow up around someone, if you don't have the same beliefs, it is probably difficult to know who you married. I think most people try to honor the vows, though.

Jesus provided for a valid breaking of marriage vows if fornication was committed. It's in the Bible.

Here's one of the traditional vows that says neither partner will cheat (the key word is "faithful"):

I, (name), take you, (name), to be my [opt: lawfully wedded] (husband/wife), my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.
