Resolved Question

Is there anyone who still believes IQ tests are valid?

I don't, because they're just like any other standardized test. They are full of biases and whatnot. For the record, if IQ tests are reliable, then white people are smarter than black people and men are smarter than women. Something to think about.

Most of them ARE NOT.
Very few tests regarding ANYTHING really have the proper understanding and aware knowledgeable base.
Most tests are very standardized and made to only cover what the testmakers want.
Not THE REALITY.
Even the best made tests can discover some things while never discover many others - that is why most of the tests are simply pointless, and especially if just a test or two of the average scale are being taken.

The school tests are not that pointless however because they can measure some level of required knowledge.
That can be a good way if properly constructed/done.

Regarding more important issues however most of the tests available nowadays much lack true awareness and knowledge, also understanding of the topic and how humans and the consciousness/mind functions.

Neither any race is smarter than the others - nor any gender is - it only depends on the variables used what will be measured; if different variables are being used - exactly the opposite results of anything can occur.

I think they are but they ought to test more areas of intelligence than just math and patterns..

Their proliferation tends to discredit one another.

On the other hand, the steadfast refusal to consider the possibility of one race or gender being "more intelligent" than the other sounds more moralistic than anything else and may be short-sighted. In fact, morality itself seems rather indicative of a lack of intelligence. Then again, how exactly a study on the different IQs of racees would benefit us, necessarily, I can't imagine right now.

Ultimately, we might be able to say that for IQ tests in general. The only functional "use" that I could see for an IQ test would be to measure intellect for use in brain-change/intelligence-increase experiments.

Yes, the US educational system. They still use them to diagnose learning disabilities. Sad, isn't it.=

Maybe the concern isn't actually test, but rather the interpretation of the results...something else to think about..

The tests were first developed using a small group of people all of whom were white and of upper middle class. This was used to find an "average"....
psychologists still argue about how the IQ tests are culturally biased. For example....this test is based off of answers of people who lived in an individualist society, those who are more independent, rather than collectivist soceities who look for the betterment of the group. Certain "what-if" scenarios and questions are often in an individualist context....so the upper middle class people who come from an individualist upbrining will find it easier more so than a child from say.....greece.

i won't say "i think IQ tests are valid" (especially if you're referring to something like the stanford-binet or a classic iq test). HOWEVER... i think that if you are TRULY slow, you will get a low score and if you are TRULY intelligent you will get a higher score. i think that the grey area in the middle is where you might have a hard time distinguishing the difference.

also psychologists today don't just use ONE measure of intelligence testing-- there are severeal and they examine more than just one or two dimensions of intelligence. you do need a tool for evaluating peoples' capacity and needs.

I don't think so many people are better at other ways of thinking. Some people are geniuses at math, and others are more artistic, others are amazing with their reading skills and others are more into the hands on intelligence. I suck at math but am good at reading and somehow I understand science but the standardized test I took (basically IQ test) said I'm not that smart because I pretty much failed in math.

I think they are valid. I scored high enough to join Mensa...so I have no issues with them.
