Is there anything that is "off limits" in writing?

I'm writing a book now, and I was wondering if there were things were too bad to write? If so, what are they? And why? Im a big believer in freedom of expression.

I mean, like American Psycho or something. Is that too far?

I agree. Freedom of expression is very important. Don't be afraid of writing something offensive if it's what you wish to write. Even the concept of "Freedom of expression" was considered offensive at one time!
