Is this hereditary or a mutation or what? ,..that only i am born darker than my other family members?
never in my family was so dark skin colour like me,but how is it that i am born of a different all together a darker colour than any of my family members...if anyone sees my sis or my bro they get surprised if we disclose ourselves as siblings of one family.
moreover,my family is on the fairer side specially my grandpa is very fair and so was my grandma, even my parents are fair enough...so how was i born so dark...sometimes i look like am not belonging to this family but am adopted!
mom told me that she used to stare at a black cat on a poster on the wall when she was carrying me.so is it that that affected me???

It could be possible that you were adopted. It could also be possible that someone else knocked up your mom. There are many possibilities. The best thing you can do is ask your mom. I have read in the news before a black couple had a white baby. So anything is possible.

It is perfectly possible that the darker genes just remained dormant in the rest of the family. That happens sometimes, especially when the family gene pool is diverse.

need photos... for comparison otherwise it's all guesswork, you're saying your much darker.. dark for some people that may be just a good tan. Photos would allay a lot.

appearance varies between kids, not all kids born to the same parents look alike. I have 3 brothers none of us look anything like each other. In fact there is a phrase for it - milkmans sons- BUT colouration is something else. If your skin is significantly darker then that is genetic and for a one generation change that is either disease, genetic origin (different father/mother) or gene mutation which would in all likelihood leave you very very sick. I don't think you are sick, I don't think youn have a disease so that leaves a different father..... what else can it be. However photos would enable someone to look an immediately see. If you doN't want to go to a doctor and explain your issue with her/him. Best wishes sweetyLike (1)

It happens. There have been many marrages break up over this very issue. The father doesn't believe the kid is his, then blood tests prove that he is, but by then the marriage is beyond retrieval.
One of my own daughters went through a couple of years of being convinced that I was not her father. Simply because her appearance was so radically different from the rest of the family.
If you are being told by the rest of the family that your father is your biological father just accept it as gospel. By now you are old enough to hear the truth, so it's unlikely they are still just perpetuating a lie.Like (1)

Since current thinking is that we ALL originated from African stock, our ancestors were likely ALL black. So, no matter how white you think your family tree is, there will be genes that have been handed down from this original population. One of these could be a recessive gene that will give your appearance. When two people come together with this recessive there is a one in four chance that the child will have 2 copies of the gene (and therefore show the traits that you have). It's quite possible that there have been many many generations since such an occurance in your family. Hence you will LOOK out of place.Like (1)

Maybe it's genes. You could have a different father.
