Resolved Question

Is this the so-called "biological clock" i always heard about?

I am a single 34 year old female, with no children. I was in a 4 year abusive relationship when I first got out of college. After that finally ended, I devoted myself to working on my career.

I didn't really date or get seriously involved until last year, when I met a man who was seperated and "getting divorced" and had 3 kids. He and I moved in together 2 months after we met - I thought to help us both financially... He never did get the divorce, until after we broke up... and I ended up paying all the bills, until I moved his things out, and wrote a check for his first month's rent at his own apartment. I was more tore-up about his 3 kids, then I was about him.

Now, I know that I will NOT jump into another situation so soon... but I also don't have much time left to wade in the waters of the dating pool, if I want to have my own child. But I am also traditional, in the fact that I want to be married, before having a child.

So, what's a 34-year old single girl to do?

Don't get in a relationship just because you feel your "clock is ticking." Your biological clock refers to your chromosomes and the potential for having an infant with birth defects like Downs Syndrome in your later reproductive years. Besides the hormone changes that happen and other uncomfortable things as we become peri menopausal. That's your biological clock. You got a way to go. Enjoy your life and take your time.
I wish you all the best.

I would just say, don't have a child just to have a child... even if you do wind up not producing any children of your own, there are hundreds of ways to help needy children in the world and show them some love and support. We can all contribute to society, in our own small ways.

Start dating seriously. Put the word out among your friends: "if you have any single friends who you think I'd get along with..." Also look for other marriage-minded guys on Internet dating sites and so on. Don't beat yourself up about waiting too long, or allow yourself to get desperate, though. You can always adopt a child later in life, or become a foster parent and give needy kids a stable home.
