Yes it is sad. Even sadder that once he achieved success, he didn't channel his intellectual energies in a more helpful manner.

He did campaign actively against SOPA. He was always in favour of free information. The possibilities of him directing his "intellectual energies" towards more "helpful" directions were extinguished so early.

suicide in any one is sad....... to feel so helpless with no one in your life to turn to in your hour of need is some thing no person should have to suffer through, may all their souls rest in peace.

He had been depressed in the past, and had openly talked about contemplating suicide. But, you never know. Morally speaking, the harsh charges against him drove him to death, so it's more like a murder.

I don't know who he is, but it's always a tragedy when someone suicides young or old
