It's Buddha's birthday. What good deed will you do/have you done today?

"Wesak",the full moon on May 9 commemorates Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death.

It is said that any good deeds you do , prayers you make or offerings you give during this time will have 10,000 times

more benefit than at any other time. What will you do? You don't have to be Buddhist to participate.

DATES: LOL, everybody! The Lord Buddha's birthday is supposed to be the fourth lunar month from the New Year, which was in April for China , Korea and Japan (Mahayana tradition), in May for SE Asia which is

Theravada and in May-June 22 for Vajrayana (India and Tibet).

I'm Vajrayana but I'm living in SE Asia so I'm celebrating this day now and later on this month also observing our designated sacred period. Hey, it's all good!

Thank you everyone for your comments and observing this day in whatever way beneficial way you can, whatever your beliefs. This just serves as a focus.

Why not celebrate Buddha's Birthday everyday? Then we can celebrate the continuous passing of good deeds everyday regardless of the Karmic value of each deed.

Today I will continue to emit positive energy to my coworkers, and try to cheer them up when they are frustrated or bored. If they are overwhelmed with their work load, I will aid them.

Very interesting! Though I'm not Buddhist, guess it won't hurt to make sure I "don't" kick the cat today! Eh?

Nah, it's still early, I'll come back after I've done something completely world-changing!

Its nice that it is Buddha's birthday today. He was a nice person. I read about him from the time I was very young in Moral Science book. I believe that all the good things I do, can never earn God's blessings or favour. God answers my prayer any time and all the time because Jesus paid for the whole world to be forgiven and made righteous so today when I pray, God hears. - not because of how good I am. I love other people and do good things because God loves me..not to get my prayers answered!

I will recommend that people read Sidharta by Herman Hesse so that they can enjoy reading about his life.

I'm not Buddhist but since you don't have to be one to join in, today's a good day to take those bags of clothes I've been meaning to take to the shelter.
Thanks for the question.

I got a case of ramen and a crate of fruit and gave it to the homeless and took offerings to the temple.

I felt like this was a drop in the bucket but thousands of drops can make an ocean, so I hope everyone can give something to help the poor this day.

I'm just asking for relief wherever my eyes turn. If someone looks sad, I wish them happiness. If someone looks angry, I wish them peace, etc.

I helped someone carry groceries... Doing whatever is needed.
It doesn't have to be a big thing.

I am buddhist but a rather lazy one. I will do puja today.
Also I'll write to a couple of people that I've put off for too long.

Is buddah a very good man who died years ago. was he a human like me and you. or is it only a stone shaped like a person invinted by somebody? If he was a man who was his God. If it is only a peace of stone how can it do anything?

I'm not asking this out of sarcasm, but out of ignorance. I'm confused. How many birthday's does this guy have? My calendar listed a birthday for him several weeks ago. And when I saw this question, I Googled "Buddha's birthday", and Wikipedia says his birthday is celebrated according to a lunar calendar, but that it feel on May 2 this year. Is it a safe assumption that all these dates spring from different traditions within Buddhism, and different calendars in different countries where Buddhism is practiced? Again, I mean no disrespect, I'm just curious.

As for what good deed will I do today, I don't yet know. It's still the night before where I am, and I'm on my way to bed. If I manage something that is not private, I'll let you know.

I didn't crush anyones skull today. I kept myself from becoming a weapon of death. I made people laugh. I didn't let him win today.

I'll spare the life of a beetle which somehow found its way into my basement.

I've named him Pete! I think the buddhist-like side of me is coming out this week....first I feel guilty over killing Alice the cricket, and now there's Pete. I'll just start naming everything that moves.
