A brave stand by men who accepted responsibility for their actions.
The document they left was a statement that in its day was the epitome of enlightenment.
It should be noted however that the signitaries were all white males and included slave owners. This does NOT make them bad people as those were the standards of the time.
But it does point up the fact that times change and the constitution can evolve to reflect the newer times.
Happy Birthday Uncle Sam and the United States of America.
The date signifies just how old our republic has become and just how far it has fallen from the founding father's ideals like Jeffersonian democracy. Social mobility is among the lowest in the developed world. The family farm and mom and pop stores are all but extinct and the rich get richer while the poor get poorer.
A day i should have explosives to shoot at dennis but i dont :-X
It was adopted on July 2, 1776, to which John Adams said July 2 will be celebrated for years to come. Unfortunately, there was no 24/7 news cycle at that time, and he didn't factor in the time it would take to make copies and get it sent out across the country.
Interesting, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were great friends, then bitter enemies, then great friends. They both died on July 4, 1826, 50 years to the day and on the exact same day. Interesting.

It served as a hopeful and significant event for Western Civilization. In encouraged people to reject monarchies and to fight for representative governments. Before 1789 there was 1776. The events of July 4, 1776, was the catalyst of the environment that led people to demand improvements for human rights conditions. Only in a republic would this be likely, a dictator won't give a damn about human rights.
It signifies the founding of my home. That said, I think you're looking for "unilateral", not "unanimous".
Agh, late night. Of course it was unanimous among the signatories.
The end of civilisation as we know it.
236 years of defying the history of the world.
236 of minding everyone else's business
Australia always stands tall next to America all the time
hmmm??... I don't think it ''just sort of happened'' and one could go as far to suggest that if not for WWII, then a war between the British Empire and the US was very much on the cards. Thankfully that didn't happen and i for one remain thankful for the sacrifice of 10's of thousands of young Americans during WWII..happy birthday Yanks.
