At least they give you that much now. Years ago, you couldn't even do a search without paying first. I don't know of any sites that'll help without a payment.

We use it and are happy to. We only pay for the months that we are doing an active search. On the free account, you can input everything you research on your own without paying and build up your family tree. If you are just wanting to build a tree, the site is great. You can also look for GEDCOM software. There are free versions out there.

The library. Much cheaper but more legwork. If you're willing to put in the effort.

I've used ancestry.com for years and you do have to pay for the extra services. The main service is free for putting in family trees and printing. Since I have family in Canada & England I did have to pay the deluxe rate to search records going back but i only do it a month at a time. it is pretty reasonable but not for everyone.

for some strange reason they let people post naked pictures of themselves when i was on there-under their last name i guess so one of their family members will see them butt naked when they are looking up their last name. I dont know if they still do that

It is really expensive to get hold of the info they use they can access so much for free as can you but you cant expect them to pay good money and give it to you for free. And thats true for all such sites advertising just wont cover it.

P.S theres an ancestry.co.uk ad on this page right now :)

To pay to use the site then be asked to pay again for the "deluxe package " what a joke !

well thats just it some records are not public and need to be purchased from private companies. You pay the first barrier to get the stuff they got for free and the second to get the stuff they paid for. But it is pretty bad of them to not tell you upfront.

If you Mother was adopted you may need a genetic test to try and solve that puzzle sir. Give it another go in ten years the data will be waiting for you.
