My wife had all 3, yes 3.

She had a C-section with our first child. It wasn't an emergency one, she just didn't dilate fully and her bag had been broken long enough according to the doctors who said it was time to get the baby out.

She had a vaginal birth with our second child without any meds.

She had our 3rd child with pitocin and an epidural.

She said the C-section was easier to recover from than the standard vaginal birth (she tore badly, a grade 3 tear which took quite a bit of time to heal. Baby was only 7 lbs 2 ounces).

My pains never got worse than bad period cramps. Don't let well-meaning people frighten you

I would think 'natural' if at all possible. Don't think it's meant to be pain free, unfortunately.

I would take labor any day. I had a c section with my first and it took a very long time to recover. I was always in pain, and very tired. I got through most of the labor before they cut me open, and I have to say I would rather bear through that before I go under the knife again.

I've heard of a lot of folks going down this route to eliminate pain. Well, atleast labor.
