down here in New Zealand being barefoot is very common. I'm a young stay at home mum and I live a completely barefoot lifestyle 24/7 everywhere. Shoes are completely unnecessary down here as the weather is perfect for being barefoot. Neither of my two children have ever worn shoes on their feet, this is very common here.
