It may mean you are being 'srangled' by two extreme aspects of or-in your relationship.
Imagining there were demons is very common. It usually indicates a much deeper (primal) effort to fight back.
While there is nothing at all wrong with protecting ones self; one must take care not to fall victim to ones own rage and suffer needlessly.
