Let's face it, aren't atheists just as guilty as theists for pushing their ideas down people's throa

My apologies for painting a broad brush, I really don't get why people can't peacefully co-exist, don't really care what your beliefs are, have no interests in imposing mine over yours. What I do care about is mutual respect of beliefs. It's not going to solve anything shoving your idea down someone's throat. So wouldn't we all be better off if we did that?

Finally, someone who makes sense! Some atheists are so quick to jump down people's throats to try to prove their beliefs, they can be just as bad.
Point made: I just got accused of being an idiot for not believing what an atheist said on EP.

There's a difference though. One set of beliefs claim you will spend an eternity in agony if you don't follow their beliefs and rules and it has a long history of persecution, torture and murder of those that wouldn't or didn't believe. And it is based on a collection of stories, many written over 3,000 years ago that describe a being for which there is absolutely not a shred of credible evidence to support a belief in it's existence.
The other asks you only to not believe in things for which there is no evidence. It doesn't ask you to conform to any particular belief whatsoever. It asks only that you use your brain, be rational, logical, incredulous and skeptical. And of course to learn about the real world around you not the fairytale one described in some ancient unsubstantiated text.

I have no respect for people who believe in things for which there is no evidence. I believe people have a right to believe in whatever they want. They don't have a right to expect me to respect their beliefs or not to criticise their beliefs. For instance if you believe that gay people are immoral I would have no respect for that and would criticise you for it. Believe whatever you want but you can never expect respect or not to be criticised.

It's not the " position" of/ on the issue that irks me, it's the angry, bitter, self-righteous tone many atheists use; it's off-putting and insulting.

Yup some are. They criticize religion for saying "we are right and if you disagree then you will (insert religious scare tactic)" but some say the same when its "we are right and if you disagree then you are an idiot." The ones who actively discredit religion give atheist a bad rep.

That explains why some people like me just stay away from them.

I am a theist and I am not going to let anyone cause me to go against my beliefs and so.

When atheists get to be the majority for a few thousand years and kill people that dare question their beliefs, then we will be just as guilty. Until then, its like comparing the moon to a boulder.

I'd say....nay. I have never heard or seen someone whos an atheist force their views on other people. But everywhere I go on the internet everyone and anyone is getting slammed 'in the name of the lord'..Pff. The only time I see atheist poke their head out in conversations like that is to simply question that person that is being so obnoxiously rude with their beliefs.

I agree. Everyone should just get along..As far as I'm concerned if theyre right well ****, theyre right. But they could be wrong..and no one will know until you take your final breath.
