we're assuming they are both equally a match and the choice is mine to make.

yeah, we are assuming that the only factor at hand is who gets it but it's a good rationalization nontheless.

That's why I chose the father. My heart physically could give him what he needs, but to start at 7 again?

I would want it to go to the person who had the highest likelihood of being a compatible match for my heart and who had the highest likelihood of surviving the procedure to resume a normal life. In other words, I would want the experts to make the best medical decision, because I wouldn't want to be in a position to choose life for one and death for the other. I'd want the decision to be analytical and made by those trained to calculate those risks and odds.

well, that's a way to dogde the question. Say all what you have said is true and in the end the doctors give you two names with 99,9 chance of survival after the procedures, who will it go to?

Then my next question to the doctors would be which of the two could last longer to wait for the next heart without the transplant and which would have the highest likelihood of finding another match. I make my decisions analytically, so I would just keep asking questions until the information made the choice obvious.

This game sucks. But I guess in some fashion or another, someone has to play this game because there are only so many good organs to go around. What a crappy job that'd be.

This is a game with no winners. You always end up ruining someone's life. Very pathos-y.
