Making a gift for my sister for her wedding present?

My sister is getting married in March and I have decided to make a memory box for her and her husband. They have lived together for a long time and so they have everything you'd normally get as a wedding present and because it's going to cost me all my savings just to get us to her wedding I can't really afford anything big that they might need. So I wanted to give her something from my heart... a box in shades of her and her husband's favourite colours, where they can keep special momentos of their marriage. I made one for my fiance for our 2nd anniversary and it was just beautiful. So I know I can do a good job, it won't look shoddy or anything.

But my mum called it 'worthless' and told me my sister probably won't use it, and now I am scared to do it. I think she would be touched, she's a sentimental person like me who hordes little things and I think it'd be perfect to give her a place to put her little reminders of their marriage. But mum added doubt now so I am just asking you guys what you think??? Would you like to get that from your family memeber on your wedding day?? Or would you think it was pointless???

Thanks everyone for all the lovely and supportive things you've said!!!! :)

Not to be crude but who gives a flying fart what your mother thinks! It sounds like a lovely thoughtful gift and Im sure your sister would appreciate something special and from the heart.
I work retail and help people choose presents ALL the time - a platter or box of wine glasses doesnt have anywhere near the same impact as the beautiful memory box you describe.
If you feel in your heart its the right gift to give then give it. Being a hoarder of sentimental tokens myself I would be honoured to receive such a precious gift.

I think its a really good gift. I always prefer a hand made gift rather than something brought and generic. U have what i don't, which is the skill and creativity to create something beautiful and sentimental.

However, i would advise to make it unique and not similar to what you made your fiance.

I vote for going for it...I am thinking mom is jealous that you thought of it first

I do have an extra suggestion... google up marriage advice quotes. Write the quotes on the back of pictures from various times in their relationship. Then on their anniversary you can send another more recent picture with more advice quotes. They can also add to it themselves too.

Just a thought
