Resolved Question

Man-made images.?

Would you have a problem walking into any church of any religion and breaking the man-made statues they have put up? Whether they would be of Jesus, the virgin Mary, or Buddah?

I wouldn't at all except that some folks would get offended, but thats not the question. What if they said, "feel free to break anything you want if your heart so desires it."

Would you, could you, or would you even want to do it?

I would have no problem doing it if I knew if wasn't going to offend them. Cause I see them as man-made only.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying it to do it to hurt someone. I'm just saying can you do it or do you feel it is a sacred object and shouldn't be done?

Art work should always be preserved. It is one of the worst injustices when a labor of love piece of art gets destroyed. Preserving history is important no matter your beliefs. Once it is gone, that link to the past is gone. You only have to look to the seven wonders of the ancient world several of which could have been preserved and were not. It is a shame. It has nothing to do with religion really. It has to do with respect of something that someone else created.

I'm a pagan so I see them as are inanimate objects and I would have no problem as such.

However I would consider the feelings of the church-goers and then change my mind.

So my answer: yes but only if I tuned to satanism or was making a horror movie ;-)

In the basic idea of your question, no it would not bother me if I broke a man made religous image. Even the ones of Christ are not him really.
But I would not go out of my way to do so. They are works of art and admiration of other people.

No. I have no desire to break something that belongs to someone else.

in a what-if scenario I probably would. lol

thats IF it wouldn't offend any one, and IF they suggested that it was "ok" to do it. I'd break many things. =)

Where is the point at being destructive; it cannot be said to solve any problem but it does nauseate me to see religious icons. I do however admire much of the art and craft involved.

does 'man made' somehow demean the value of a thing - make it unholy?

look to man and the mysteries within and cry out in awe - for within man lies the kingdom of heaven - and through him, the spiritual enters this world - in a special way - each being, each species channels in a way no thing has done before - is this profane?

I can tolerate anything but intolerance

art work should be respected as holy - as part of the divine

no - I would not.
