Michael Jackson Memorial Concert- Should it have been public?

Just watching the news, it pretty easy to see that, amongst the devastation and loss of the King of Pop, millions of devout fans were unable to attend his memorial concert due to the fact that it was ticketed (they needed a ticket to enter the Center). Was this right? Would it have been better to hold a public memorial at his Ranch, to allow everyone a chance to say goodbye? What do you guys think?

I believe that Michael would have been proud of his family, his friends and his fans today.
All over the world, human beings of all races, nationalities and religions shed tears for him.
Of course this should have been public.
How else would this caring man's life been celebrated?
May he now rest in peace and may all those who were so mean to him in life, now know what a great man he was.
I am in pain and my heart aches for him. He shouldn't have had to die to see all the love for him.
I hope he is looking down smiling upon the world he has brought together today.

Personally, I know ALOT of people will disagree with me on this, but we ALL have a right to our opinion, so I aam gonna say it anyway... I DON'T believe ANY funeral should be public! Afterall, greiving is a personal thing!

nothing at all wrong with it being public. he was world renound. the world loved him, no one else can say that. there were people allowed a his ranch to gather and view the memorial. they also gathered at churches and other stadiums. after the last court case against him, he never wanted to go back to the ranch so his family was most likely respecting those wishes by not taking him there. with his undenyable talent, longevity in the industry and global following, yes his life warranted any tribute his family felt was befitting.

Not unless either MJ's will or the family wanted it that way. While he was a 'public figure' he was also a son, brother, and father and those should always override any 'public consideration'.

Well, he is an icon. I think the family should morn in peace but he was so loved by everyone in the world. It was inevitable that this was going to happen. People have to morn together for the one they loved. People get together and help each other out during this time and it helps. He and his music were loved so much.

If that was his families choice then who are we to say it is wrong. They are sending their son off in a way which they think is appropriate. Their son their choice.

there were a lot of people who really loved him and wanted to pay their respects-- it's not like there are a billion people in the world who would come to my funeral if they could take the day off, afford a plane ticket, ect. so yes, i would say probably it was good that it was broadcast. still, i doubt many people were productive today!

no, if you died would you want a bunch of strangers there to see your family morn, When my daughter died a woman I didn't know came to my door and asked if she could see my dead baby because she had never seen one before, it's the same of mj his family was going through the worst times of their lives his children were put up on stage to morn publicly, i would come back and haunt the world if that happened to my children, when their sister died, they were distraught, unconsolable, and it was a private affair, the fifteen mins that our friends and familuy showed up and the hour long dinner after were some of the hardest times of her dealth because people could see the raw emotion that we culdn't hide, did his kids or mother deserve lesss?
