My lab is pretty calm, well behaved and cheerful. My Yorki-mix/mutt is well behaved for me, she ignores my husband. :)

For me it has to be the Rottweiler hands down...but as with any dog breed...it is all in how you raise and train them

Shelties are clever little dogs - sometimes more intelligent than relatives.

my dog died today, she was a quiet, shy dog, although very loved , she liked smiling and chasing after my foot when i walked She was tiny and had nice brown and white fur. She'll be missed for sure

sounds like you're looking for something calm and not in need of great amounts of exercise. try something like a bulldog or a St. Bernard.

My Jack Russell was insane when I got her and she is still mad now. It has nothing to do with how she has been looked after. My other dog was completely normal but my Jack Russell is really naughty. She's loving, but crazy.

I would say labs and beagles. or even lab mixes and beagle mixes. i know a great dane/black lab mix who looks like a giant black lab...he is just the sweetest. he doesn't realize he weighs 150lbs and he tries to be a lap dog. it's too cute. for a smaller breed, my sister has a shih tzu/daschound mix and he is the most docile little pup ever, all he does is snuggle.

Any of the "working dog" breeds. Labs, retrievers, and my personal favorite, German Shepherds. Mixed breeds are often great companion dogs, too.
