Most Politicians have never worked in the real world, how come they know what's best for us? ---- Discuss!
In the UK and elsewhere I am sure, we have career Politicians, they leave University, become Political Advisor's (UK) / Intern's (USA), then get selected for a Seat in an Election, the next thing you know is they are a Ministers PPS, then Junior Minister, then Minister and they've never done a 'proper' days work.

The nature of politics in my country is mostly about influence, and influence is often related to money. So, it's not the working man who can most often afford to run for office. Once in a while, a self made man who has worked his way up to millionaire status might get in there, but even in that case, that person has usually become quite detached from the realities of being an average person. And going with the flow is the order of the day since others in power can make or break an individual trying to get his foot in the door. That's often the way things operate in the world of wealth or power.
It's a sad thing about money and its relation to politics and being the fuel that political machines run on. Votes are bought and evoked often enough by salesmanship and seduction, and politicians read scripts intended to attract followers, not to educate the people or represent the quality of the candidate's policy or character. A lot of it is show business and power play now. And lots of celebrity schmooze. What I find most frustrating is the fact that people buy into it, the same way they buy into celebrity and the lure of an overpriced brand name. So, in a sense, I guess the superficial and gullible populace often gets what it deserves. Like (2)
