Not the same thing at all, mustard goes with meat, pork chops, bacon, hamburgers etc. Mayonnaise goes with chips/french fries, roast potatoes and chicken :)

Spicy brown mustard for roast beef, ham, hot dogs, and hamburgers. Mayo for tuna, chicken, turkey, and potato salad.

Mayo is so fattening that I've gotten used to not eating it. And I really like brown mustard.
If I want mayo, then I substitute ranch dressing.

Mayo. I never liked mustard, but as of lately I have been more accepting of it.

Mustard. Mayonnaise is made with raw eggs. I can't stand raw eggs.
