Resolved Question

My 5 year old daughter pointed to her nipple and asked me what they were called. What is appropriate answer?

Should I tell her "Nipple" or should it be something that is not kiddie word? She has a tendency of repeating new words i teach her. I would hate for her to go to school and keep saying the word over and over in her school.

Go with nipple. You want your children to trust you to tell them the truth. Always. If she repeats the word, it's really not that big a deal.

Nipple.
If you teach her other words , you will just get her confused.

"Nipples." If she learns the proper word for them she can begin to understand that they're just a part of her body, and will be less likely to be immature about that. Same goes for any part of the body. That's simply what they're called.

Nipple. Would you tell her that the pointy thing on her face is called a triangle? toast point?, compass needle? Of course not! And BTW it's on a breast, not a hooter, tata, or jug!

You should always tell children the correct word for anatomy.

I think that when kids are old enough to want to know something and they ask, you should tell them. I would tell her that it is a nipple. If she asks any more questions, give her answers in words that she will understand. It is better that she learn things from you than on the "street".

Children do the repeating thing. Most of them grow out of it. Tell her the real name. She'll appreciate you being straight with her in the long run,and it won't do her any harm in school either.

Nipple, it's not a bad word, and she'll stop repeating it before you know it. Kids get bored of things easily.

If you still have doubts I would ask her teacher at school or one of the other mothers.

The majority of answers says nipple, so I gotta go with that.

Within a week, she'll probably forget about it anyway.

Tell her it is called a nipple. Why lie? Be honest. Its a body part. Just like your toe or nose.

use a kiddie word. she will find out the real meaning on her own and then she will be at an age when she won't be running around using words she doesn't understand.
