My 5yr old son and me have heard each other calling each other when we are separte from each other why does this happen?

We are in different places while this happened i could hear him calling my name but i know he wasn't home. And while he was at his grandmothers he could her my call him. i never told him this happened to me he casually told me about this in a conversation we were having about what he did at grandmas.
