My 75 y/o mom had blood taken 1 month ago, after she had pain that has persisted in the area, she feels as if?

a needle broke off or sometrhing, an x-ray showed nothing, i think they used a buttterfly, is it possible a plastic piece, not detectable on x-ray is still inside, she still feels pain, any ideas would be very appreciated.

While I feel sorry for your mom, it is highly unlikely that anything broke off in her. Even plastic should show up on the x-ray, IIRC. I hate to say this, but, my parents are aging as well. Several years older than your mother actually. My mom is always complaining about pain. I think sometimes they get a pain, they remember that pain and it becomes a phantom pain and they feel if even when there is nothing there.

if they took an x-ray and their is nothing ...more than likly their isent. butterfly needles do not have plastic on them, its a verry small metal needle. IV catheters are made of plastic. the pain in the area is probibly a nerve that was hit when they stuck her. sometimes it can be a terrible pain usualy brought on by movment of the extreamity. i hope your mothers pain gets better.
