My aunt lied about me?

She told people i tried to run away from home and the only reason i didnt was because she talked to me out of it. this is a complete lie but some of the people she told probably believe her despite what i say because of my personal problems. I have no idea why she did this. Does anyone have a theory about this or has done something similar to this that could give me their take o it. I'm 18 and have recently found out about this and she told people this when i was like 14yrs

Your aunt sounds like one of those people who has very little going on in her own life so she makes up stuff to make herself feel better. Lots of people do this. Its just a sad fact of life. Don't let it get to you. Hold your head high and rise above it! Good luck xo

Hi Johnny...

I'm sorry to hear about this. Family is one of the biggest complications one can have in one's life.

Unfortunately, this aunt is a figure in a family everybody has. Someone who has to be the problem solver, the only one who has it together, someone who everyone depends on...

Having someone like this in your life is annoying at best. You would like to hate them or maybe prove them wrong in front of the whole town (hopefully). But the best thing that you can do is just stay away from them. They're playing some kind of mind games and you don't want to get involved.

Ignore all those people who believe her, they're not worth your time. After all, they believe a rumor without giving you a chance to tell your side of the story. Or not taking you seriously when you do tell your story. They've made up their minds - don't waste your time trying to change them.

People with common sense will see through your aunt show offs and believe you more when you don't try to defend yourself. It's weird but it works.

I have a mother who did stuff like that to me. Luckily i didn't find out for years. By that time I was mature enough to handle my reaction. (Ie, not do something stupid)
My parents were split up and she told my dad that I had burnt out my brain cells taking drugs and had to be dragged into a mental hospital kicking and screaming. She told my whole family this. the bit that hurt the most - they believed her - all except my youngest brother. It still hurts to this day... Be strong

sadly there are a lot of people like this in the world i have one in my family she is called my mum, and one of my sisters is following in her footsteps, you just have to remember that you know the truth and that is all that matters, all liers either get caught or get some kind of comeuppance in the end its karma.
so just sit back and wait, and remember as long as you know the truth it is all that matters, (((((hugs)))))))) joss.

i have a sister like this, always telling lies and getting trouble stirred up because she has nothing better to do. she's always been like this, just mean spirited and nasty. she recently called the police and told them her daughter, my niece, and her bf had stole pain pills from her, which was a bare faced lie. the only way i've been able to deal with her is to completely distance myself from her, which is a shame but necessary for my peace of mind. she is toxic and dangerous and i refuse to have someone in my life like that, even if it's family. try to put some distance between you and your aunt like i did.

I have similar family members *who generally only exist on my stepdad's side, and he follows them pretty well, actually. ...* I would say do your best to distance yourself, like has much been suggested already.

maybe you'll get a chance to tell your side eventually, but for now, all the suggestions seem pretty good.
