I told him don't stress about it, we were both working that day. Just some flowers, I'm allergic to chocolate, would be nice. I got home from a full day of work, wrapped his present (a bread knife, beer, cookies, and a $50 gift card) and wrote a heart felt note, cut into pieces, and he had to follow to trail to find his present. All together 1 hour prep time. He comes in after work and didn't even want to look for his present. I asked if we could celebrate the day before, trail ride at my farm together and grab some burgers. Not interested in that either, had to twist his arm to sit down and eat instead of ordering food to go. It's not that I want stuff, but the lack of effort is really hurting my feelings and makes me feel positively insignificant. We both agree this is kind of a dumb holiday, but that shouldn't mean you don't show affection or spend time with someone special. How would you handle this situation?

But this isn't about the holiday. It's a lack of effort and respect for the relationship. I'm really tired of sitting on my hands and letting it be okay that my feelings keep being hurt because a trip to the museum or a day at his mother's farm (where I work) is too much to ask of him. If it was a holiday thing I would let it slide. But the whole relationship is sliding

Then break up.

You really need him to play the role of your dancing clown to prove to you he loves you? Lower your expectations and appreciate the small acts and you will find peace.

I don't asking for flowers or his time is asking for too much or demeaning for him. Sorry I didn't realize romance dies after dating

If he is not showing affection on the other 364 days, you need to move on. Valentine's day is a commercial holiday... nothing more. Life and relationships are about the things you do and say daily.

Best answer, just what I was going to say.

Sorry. Its what we men do when a holiday is such obvious bullshit. Tell him you want a date night next week then, and it had better be good! <br />
Also your allergic to chocolate too? I thought i was the only one! Why dont they make more butterscotch stuff?

Best Answer

I know! Or caramel. Chocolate chocolate chocolate. Same stuff happened on Christmas and my birthday too. He's essentially determined to complaint that holidays suck. Really not even in the mood for a rescheduled date at this point.

A holiday hater! Yup, content to be a jerk. Well, maybe his heart will grow. Or maybe not.
Good luck.

Its no big deal. Valentines Day is just some made up cliche holiday. He shouldn't be expected to profess his love one day of the whole year. He should be expected to do it here and there throughout the year.

Best Answer

So make it valentine to day

Best Answer

Set him straight now or he will never celebrate it again. let him know holidays are special to you.

I second this one. Us guys need to be told in plain language what it is that you girls want, usually. You said you both agreed that Valentine's day is a dumb holiday. This can provide a guy with a lot of latitude. It's obviously not that dumb to you since you're carrying on with these expectations.

Let him know what's up with no room for interpretation. You'll be doing both of you a failure. And if he still doesn't take this to action, ditch his *** and find a guy that respects your desires.
