Resolved Question

My cat has been sick for months, we've spent more than $1200 trying to find out what's wrong...?

So far treatment hasn't worked and the vet wants to do more tests. We could get into financial problems if we continue testing, but if we don't find out what's wrong she will die.

She's 6 years old and we've ruled out haemobartonella, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and feline leukemia. She doesn't have the energy to climb the stairs, her fur looks scruffy, she sleeps constantly, she has lost 2.5 pounds, and she vomits everyday.

Would you continue to test or have her put to sleep?

Also...has anybody had the same symptoms in their cat?

could it be irritable bowel disease? it's very hard to diagnose and treat. my cat had this at age seven. his body wasn't processing his food correctly and he wasn't getting any nutrition and was dying from the inside out. he had diarreaha (not sure how to spell) which progressed to vomiting.

he finally was so hungry that he ate one of those little mice toy thingees that are made out of rabbit fur, which got lodged in his intestinal tract and had to be surgically removed. this is when the vet found out, by looking at him when he was opened up for surgery, that he had irritable bowel disease.

unfortunately, he didn't make it. i had to have him put to sleep. he was throwing up all the time, very weak and in pain.

have you tried changing his/her diet? try feeding him/her raw chicken, ground turkey, or special food recommended by your vet. ask the vet first if he thinks this is worth a try. good luck with your kitty, i wish you the very best! *hugs*

Some people are so insensitive. I'm sorry about your cat. It sounds so familiar to my friend's cat who was diagnosed with diabetes recently. Are you sure that the vet is positive it's not that? I might give a different vet a shot at checking the cat for that one more time before you put the cat down. It also sounds like it could be kidney failure which one of my cats had years ago. That, unfortunately, is almost always fatal I believe

I would put the cat down.. all these tests would be too much for the cat.. the time spent away from its family would be hard for it.. not to mention recovery after every visit to the vet.. and then the cost/expense.. alright if you have the money..

Sorry about this but I do believe its the best for everyone..

Sometimes vets miss what's wrong so maybe try another vet for one last try...Otherwise, stop the tests, keep her as comfortable as possible and see how she does...If she's still eating that's a good sign; as she's vomiting a lot try to make sure she's getting enough to drink. The scruffy fur sounds like she's stopped grooming and is also a sign she's feeling poorly. Hope things improve...
