Just tolerate it if you can, it will cause less trouble. If you must say something tell her that her negitivity is bringing you down and ask her to find someone else to vent to.

Tell her that you'll pray to "Baby Jesus" about them or it every time she does. I mean every time. Also incoporate other deities and make up some new ones.

You try mirroring her complaints. If she says 'sue is the rudest woman I know!' just repeat the sentence and say "sue is the rudest woman I know'. That'll stop her in her tracks.

My coworker does the same thing. I usualy respond with a positive coment that shuts her up. If she complains that it's too hot outside I say, at least the sun is shining. If she says the boss is acting like a jerk, I say his back is probably hurting him today. Works for me, give it a try!

Whenever your friend starts to complain, just point out the positive side of it. It'll either annoy her enough to stop complaining to you, or maybe even help her loosen up.

When she starts to talk about someone else you say to her that you don't want to talk about someone behind their back. It would stop her from coming to you to involve you so that you're as responsible as he/she is. No one has to tolerate that kind of unprofessional behavior and if you don't stop it you'll get wrapped up in it and pay a price for it. Tell her to stop and be done with it. If she insists or starts to bully you about it then take it to the supervisor.

She probably doesn't know it's complaining. She's just talking { As far as she's concerned} If you have tried everything , then ask her the big question. Why are you so negative? She'll deny her habit.HOWEVER, she will review herself and think about it. Of course, after complaining about what you just said. It will stop!
