My daughter married a racist. He has views on everyone and doesn't seem to care if I hear them or not.?

He determines a persons sexual orientation, etc., by there appearance. He is visiting and we recently went to a very public place where he must have said the word queer, lesbian and gook six times in my presence and my daughter's presence. It's completely unacceptable, but what can I do. She knew him and my feelings towards this before she married him. They plan to live in his home town in a southern state, which incidentally, I will never visit again.

Haha you should confront a man in front of his wife? Yea thats a good way to get punch in the mouth. There are a few things you never do You never confront a man in front of his wife or his friends if you want the conversation to remain civil.

As much as i believe every mans Beliefs not matter how backwards should be held in the highest respect, I do beleive there is such a thing as common curtesy, What you should do is Bring him aside man to man telll him politely that that kind of conversation makes you uncomfortable and you'd prefer if he didn't use that langague around you or in public with you.

If he is an honorable man he will respect you for this and try his best to honor your wishes. But i would advise against trying to convert him to being more open minded at this time.

The real sad thing is that if they ever have children they are going to teach them how to be narrow minded bigots and racists at a very early age. That is very sad and disturbing. Poor kids. You can dislike a persons opion or their attitude but to hate someone because they have strong opions on everyone is the same as what they are doing. We can not stop people from feeling how they do but we can show them that we can like and tolerate them inspite of it. Which is not what they are doing so you have to. He is upfront so you be upfront, tell him he allowed his opion just please tone it down or refrain from sharing in your prescence. Rated: +2Vote for this!

Tell your daughter you will go in public with only her and tell her why, if you don't want to confont him. There really is nothing you can do, unfortunately, he is a man set in his ways and probably couldn't change if he tried. Your daughter loves him, she chose him despite his prejudice ways. Racism is like bullying, they get a high from thinking they're superior then certain groups. You can't teach people that's a wrong way to feel, especially if they want to believe it.
