My dog loves to chew anything that's sharp and pokey; any idea why?

Bread ties, small wires, stickers in the grass. He's even gotten a sticker stuck in his gums before, and that painful event still hasn't deterred him! He's actually more my bf's dog, but we both have to keep an eye on him because he always jumps right for anything pokey. It's got me puzzled.

Extra info: he's a 14-year-old dachshund and has loved pokey things for years.

unicorn59	Posted Nov 17th, 2009 at 9:12AM He has done this for years...and he's 14....chances are he isn't going to change, now.... I'd take him to the vet, and have his teeth/gums checked...especially at 14.....he may be trying to relieve something going on in there....and pups that age, also need their teeth cleaned, to make sure bacteria doesn't get into their bloodstream....let us know how the dr. appt turns out....
