Did you mean "can"? or "can't"? If it's can, then great! I don't see what the question is. And if she can't, then yeah, that happens. Religion is very important to those who have it. It's a way of life and a sense of identity. Most of those who reject an opportunity for religious reasons, also believe that they do it for the best and won't reconsider. If she isn't willing to look past a religious difference in beliefs now, then even if she did marry you it is sure to become a problem for the rest of your lives. You have two options: do what it takes to become acceptable to her religious beliefs (convert, or etc), or move on and realise it can never work between you two.

If she was willing to overlook religious differences, then you could reach some kind of peaceful compromise, but she's already probably decided that's not an option by the sound of it. Make your choice, but be sure you're willing to stick by it, because neither one's easy to live with. Good luck.

God would not keep you apart from your soul mate, only religion can do that. If you love her you will either find a way or you will convert to another religion. It really is that simple. With that being said, you are the only thing stopping you from being married.

Some religions are very strict about marrying outside of the religion/denomination. Catholics and Mormons (LDS) are two examples that prove it right there and have very good supporting reasons.

Belonging to a religion, as anardun said, often is something that helps create part of your sense of self. Different religions see things differently and it creates problems when you try to solve something that is seen differently by the two people in the union. If both people see the answer because of their religion, you'd be asking the other to forgo their intrinsic beliefs and that's something you just can't do to someone like that.

That's only one reason why people don't like to marry outside their religion. Heck, there are even people /within/ the same religion that interpret things differently and it creates a difficult relationship. Point in case, my parents.

Religion is never a good reason to not marry someone you love. It's the most irritating concept of life. It starts wars, ends lives, and --as you've found out--can end a perfectly good relationship.

Throw this rhetoric at her, and see what she thinks; We might not yet be legally married, but we are in soul, because we love eachother so much. God loves all of his children--even the sinners and wayward sons, so don't you think that it's worth sticking with?

If she disagrees, she'll be too stuck on herself later in life and not worth the trouble.

(Tell her this second part also, because no religion encourages selfish behavior, which is EXACTLY what breaking up over god or no god is. Selfish.)
