What matters is what you think.

And what he thinks.

Nothing else.

Not very likely....

How does he end up in rehab? Does someone MAKE him do it? Like a court, or you giving him an ultimatum?

If he's not willingly going, he has no chance of getting clean....Why are you sticking around for him to get his stuff straight? I know it doesn't say "until you stay clean" or "until you go to rehab 4 times", etc....in your marriage vows....

You have the right to have a life, you know.....If he's going to keep choosing his drug of choice, (alcohol/street/prescription meds)...over you....then, he's already abandoned you.....and that can't feel good....

You can't fix him....He has to do that himself...Good luck!

I truly truly hope so.... It's a hard journey, but I sincerely hope that he can stay clean this time around. I hope that you are in a support group!
I'm so sorry you are struggling with this. I wish you and your husband the very very best.

I hope so, but really have no way of knowing.

What is the saying = It takes what it takes and You have to hit bottom?

It is very hard to continue to have faith in someone that is addicted. Take care of you!

For your sake and his, I hope so. Has anyone ever gotten to the core of why he does what he does?

Possibly, but not likely. Rehab, if it works, usually kicks in on the first visit, sometimes the second, but almost never on the 3rd or more. Not impossible, but the odds are against you. Something serious would have to be at stake to keep your man clean at this point in his life. Like, life or death...

Depends on how bad the last "bottom" was....

Generally, it takes about three or four tries to kick a habit whether smoking, drinking, gambling, etc. Now if he's on meth or something really really physically addictive it might be a diferent story, however, even so, man's will often trumps statistical odds...

If he has indeed hit BOTTOM there is a good chance he can recover. I was drunk for 20+ years with no problems, then suddenly it caught up, DUI meant jail, fired off a job I had worked my *** off to run sucessfully.
Checked myself into rehab Oct 10 82 and have not had a drink since, So IT CAN BE DONE.....Wish him GOOD LUCK..

What's his hook to get him sober?

It depends on how serious he is about being clean. He obviously thinks that you will stay, so what is his incentive to get clean?! You are not helping by being there every time he decides to leap off the wagon. Show him what he can lose if he does not stay clean this time.

You 'both' have to do something to keep him away from his vices.

You ask this after he's failed three times? Addicts NEVER stay clean. EVER!!! But you took the ride and either you get off that road or you stay on it and continue to deal with the problem.

Unless he has hit bottom, no. Is he entering rehab on his own accord, or did you threaten him, or is it court ordered? Because I can tell you ordered rehab is completely worthless. Until the individual is ready to change, it won't happen.

Why do you hang around?
