I get constipated and Miralax works great. Non-stimulant, so doesn't cause cramping and is non-habit forming. Only adds water to your moms bowels to help soften. Will take a day thought, but she can take up to 2 doses a day for a week to get everything back to normal inside. I also have diverticulitous and Miralax was recomended to me by my Dr. If she has severe pain that doesn't move position (usually on the left side) and is constant....go to ER. It could be Diverticulitous and as "newmorning" said, don't take chances with that.

Stool softeners/colace. Works, but not immediately.

    Or dulcolax.

Is this a one time thing or is she usually constipated. Makes a difference on what she should be doing.

Lots of fluids and exercise are a start.

They got stuff at any Wallgreens or pharmacy, I can't remember what it's called but it comes in a powder form and orange flavor and what it does is add fiber which is what she needs is more fiber.

ok, my mom had that and it was diverticulitis........ she had an enema which could have caused her bowel's to tear, leak poison into her system. We had to take her to emergency and she stayed for a week.
is she in great pain.............. don't take chances. my mom refused to go to the hospital at first....

Easiest thing is to go and get her over-the-counter Glycerin supossitories or Dulcolax. Only takes 15 min.
