My mother was an alcoholic and my father wasn't there. I turned out fine. What is a normal household?

People always blame the parents for kids growing up doing wrong when (some of ) the parents were doing their job the best to their ability. Face it! I feel like we all are first timers when it comes to having kids no matter the way you bring your kids up in the world. The kids determine how they'll turn out when they get older.

They had issues too. Even a lot of the cartoons and fairy tales are a bit scary.

Normal and healthy households are where there is respect, honesty and communication. BTW, I agree with you I've seen great, great kids come from horrible homes, and little monsters come from loving, supportive parents and financially stable environments.

I feel like because of the "abusive cases" back when, kids are not afraid of their parents anymore. Some parents get upset because they gave their children everything. Stop trying to be the cool parent because it'll bite you in the tail in the end.

I agree. Kids don't need parents who are buddies; they have friends, what they need are adults who will parent, and always do what is best for the child....even if junior "hates them" for a couple of years.

Nothing is normal. Society dictates what norms are accepted and "normal".
