My son has a e-ton 49cc two stoke, and it will crank but then it cuts off. Does anyone know what this is?

Poor fuel flow perhaps? Check the filter or take the fuel line off and see if it's getting enough.

Maybe a bad spark plug, or the wires going to it?

Water in the gas?

Could be the points in the distributor need replacing.

If you spray ether in th carb, will it stay running? If so, then I'd check out the fuel system, from the tank - up to and including the carb. Could be time to rebuild the carb. Or take it apart for a good cleaning.
