One of my son's was the same way. I let him do it. If it was a way to get him to sleep, sure why not. It wasn't hurting anything/anyone. One of the reasons he did it, I think, is because he had gotten used to noise when it was time for bed. So by having a movie play, it was more like "background noise" to him. He eventually "grew out" of it in a year or so. He's 15 yrs old now. Now it's the opposite, he can't sleep if the TV is on!

Both my sons grew up with the tv on all night. Eventually they would turn it off as they got older. Now my grandkids are doing the same thing. I think it helps them occupy their mind so they don't think about monsters in the closet or under the bed.

i agree with suman and silverfox, it's really not any different than reading them a bedtime story. It just settles their little minds with a good story to think about while they go to sleep.

yeah it's normal, so dont panic. My three year old boy also cant sleep without the odd dvd or two best way that me and my missus are trying is to bath story then bed it's a long drawn out process but it is worth getting my little dude into a routine.. it sure beats him staying up to gone eleven when we put him down at six.

Hope this helps!

Absolutely Normal. Yes my 3 sons grew up going to bed with the TV on also. Later as they grew it had to be a box fan running all night long. Summer and Winter. It is called "white noise" and they tune into the sounds, as a comfort, to be able to doze on off to sleep. I still sleep with the box fan all through out the year, if I don't have some type of white noise I can not sleep peacefully.

a have a son who is 4 and he too refuses to go to bed without a dvd on,when he was smaller he didnt need the telly as he used a dummy(comforter)but since we took this away from him we realised that he needed something else to give him comfort while he was alone in his room.
i believe that this is normal for a child so young but i would recommend to wean him away from the tv slowly (only let him watch telly on a weekend)

what ever is normal routine for your family is ok, Mykids have a 30min show before they go to bed, it quietens them down and when it's over they know its bedtime and go without tanties(tantrums). All families have their own routines whatever works.
