My son wants to join Job Corps?

anyone been in it or know someone who has? What does it really have to offer and is it safe???

I don't agree that Job Corps leads to nowhere. I went there about 10 years ago and acquired my CNA license, and never looked back. While I don't practice that job anymore (it was hard emotionally - I got too close to all my patients... ) it was a wonderful stepping stone. Maybe the people that letsdance met were never very bright, but I am exceptionally intelligent and I'm telling you, it beats the alternative. Let him go. It might be the best thing for him. As far as responsibilty, they teach that very well. You have to make schedules, for everything from CLEANING the dorms, to scheduling tests, to setting up job interviews. If he needs to, he can get his drivers license there, his GED, and learn a trade that will be practical and take him far. Good luck with your decision.

I think its great your son has some ambition and has an interest in Job Corp. It sure beats having him playing video games all summer or wasting time at Facebook. Here is the recruiting link which offers info about the program.

I agree with jend1979. And if it gets too rough, he can always come home...

Other alternative would be a trade school.

I don't think its a good idea or a good environment. I've met a few people that joined and they didn't seem like the brightest successful people. (Just my opinion of the people that I met.) I don't think they teach responsibility well. Why doesn't he just go to college? Or a community college may be a better start for him.

What is his reason to join? High school diploma or trade?
