My two fantail goldfish are going black and blacker! Why?

No great problem really, and yes they can go back to their previous colour at least nearly after quite a long time. No it doesn't kill them.
Why I don't know, probably something to do with the old sex thing.

I have 3 of them too... and they are doing the same.. The place where I bought them from said they fight and bite the scales off of em...

Don't know A LOT "about fish', but
My Instincts "would tell me" there is 'Probably' something Wrong "with the water". I'd have it checked (by a scientist;take sample to a college lab??) and see what the results are.
