i don't even see how it shows any respect - what an antiquated and out dated concept that is - shouldn't repect be for who you ARE and what you DO - not how you look ???

i don't find it repectful when some one wears a tie - i don't see the connection.....

It's our custom.
Why do people wear shoes with laces when valcrow would be more efficient? Why do chicks wear high heel shoes even though it hurts their feet? Why did everyone wear top hats back in the day?
Maybe we see grown ups wearing them, and then when we grow up we see people in high positions wearing them, and then we wear them, and our kids see us wearing them and... We do it because everyone does it, it's just the way it is.
