I respect his office and position. He's the president, but I'm worried about the direction he's taking us. We don't need bigger and bigger government., and we have to quit spending money we don't have. I believe pretty soon, a good part of the left will see the danger too, or at least I hope so.
What are we going to pay China with, when they want their money back? Land?

Do any of you Obama bashers remember "The Patriot Act"? I knew the moment that the towers came down that our gov't. would use it as an excuse to spend more on military and take away more of our freedoms.

What about phone tapping? When did it become okay to tap phones without a warrant? Obama bashers tend to forget how many liberties the bush administration took.

Yes, it is funny how the people that jump all over Obama ignored all the crap that Bush did.

I find it remarkably funny how the general public reacts to obama... It is as if the last 8 years somehow do not apply to what is going on now.. I think this trainwreck we are all experiencing now is a combination of failed and diluted leadership over a period of presidents, and I am not just talking about bush; one party in the WH, other party in control of senate or house of reps... Reagan balloons the deficit with his free fall military spending, which is continued with the first bush, then is dramatically cut during the clinton years; only to asked by this unethical man to go around the world and be policeman (with a whole bunch of roe's and in effect tying our hands)
bottom line, what would anyone that is against obama expect a president to do given these extraordinary times? If McCain were in the WH, do you think the continuation of war funds that, by the way, were not a part of the budget (almost 1 trillion to date thanks to bush) be good fiscal decision? Would a continuation of a two war strategy be logical in the war on terror? These terrorists do not abide by geneva conventions and can easily come over here, "sleep", and awake when signled, and our troops are over "there", thinking the enemy will engage like the nazi's or japanese in ww2..
My fear was McCain, who is pro-military, but is just as stubborn, if not more, than bush.... he would alienate us from our allies and make our axis of evil enemies despise us even more...
I guess what I am trying to say is that everyone that goes against the sitting president; especially if he is from a different party, needs to stop with, "world will end" and "socialism is here" paranoa.... stop listening to drug addicts like rush limbaugh, who slam people for their shortcomings yet brush his under the closet as if it doesn't matter... Better yet, do not listen to anyone on t.v.; as these idiot cable companies only put these people on to attract ratings; never mind that they may have limited crediblility...

Depends on how they're exercised. The Bush administration got the Patriot Act, and the result was a good thrashing of some civil liberties. This shouldn't be allowed to happen again.

But...if those powers are used to reign in the rampant greed of large corporations or to make government agencies more accountable, then we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

I feel the same way I feel about Bush's post-9/11 power grab. The executive needs less power, not more. Personally, I'm still waiting (in vain, I know) for Obama and the Democrats to repeal the PATRIOT Act. But, they wont, because they like the power and enjoy infringing our freedoms every bit as much as Bush and his crew of neocons did.
