there shouldn't be prayer in schools. school is a place of learning where children from all backgrounds and religious beliefs come to get an education. prayer should be reserved for places of worship and home..
One person did not stop prayer in school, at least not in the US. One THING stopped prayer in school and that was the US Constitution which mandates a separation of church and state. True, one person, the unpleasant and sadly fated Ms.O'Hare, brought the case to the court system. But the Constitution won and church and state remain separate in the USA, unlike many other countries (if you don't belong to the Church of Norway, you are fined and fined again if you do not attend church). I do not want the USA to become a theocracy, like Iran, not even a Christian theocracy. Freedom of religion, even down to the small detail of school prayer, is very important. And, by the way, children are still allowed to pray in school...it's the officially led public prayer that was ruled unconstitutional. If your kid has a big test coming up, tell him or her to pray--can't hurt, might help! And, individually, it is still perfectly legal. Maybe you need to look for those thousand in individuals and have them turn it around in their own free individual lives. In our Constitutional democracy, prayer is one's right but it must be private, not publically sanctioned nor required.
Because the thousands don't have the right to use the government to force their religion on the rest of us.
And your probably thinking of Madeline Murray O'Hare and she was murdered for her money. But she was hardly the only person who sued over forced prayer in government places. There is a suit going on locally here right now to stop a municipal government from starting every meeting with an invocation to the Christian god. Many people have sued. The basis of this country is that the government shall do nothing to promote one religion over another -- unfortunately throughout most of our history we haven't kept to that ideal, but had Christianity forced down our throats.
I have often wondered the same thing myself although prayer does still happen in the schools just not openly. But God still hears those prayers even though they are said sliently. The woman who got prayer out of school was Madelyn Murray Ohare and she is now dead. What I find most delightful is that her son even though he was raised by an athiest when he got older he became a preacher.
No, one person did not stop it! One person planted an idea and many sheep followed blindly (while the majority slept). Then, since people don’t like being left out, more chimed in saying it’s wrong (whether they really believed it or not). Now the majority are finally waking up only to see that something precious was (again) taken from them while they slept.
if I understand correctly, student led prayers, without teachers leading, IS legal. when done at appropriate times. that is why some schools had the prayer circle around the flag pole events. problem with that is few kids have it in them to pray in public .
wow, so christians have signed on and gloated about a woman being murdered? How ironically un-christian, but typically hypocritical. What other kind of behavior should we expect from people who admire and respect known serial child molesters?
To think christ gave his life for the good of souless ******* filth like you "people." What a disgrace. What a waste. Clearly it's made none of you better human beings.
a surviving family member of a murder victim.
the three real commandments everyone should live by:
Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not be dishonest, thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself.
I can't believe what happened to the woman....it was really, really awful.....
Prayer is crap anyway!...........We are a dot in the Universe...A God???...Oh come now!
I'm sure prayer is still going on in public schools just not openly (lol)
If you're looking for prayer in schools I suggest you go to a religion affiliated school.
Madelyn Murray O'Hare was the one responsible for getting prayer stopped in schools. She was murdered some years later.
Well as much as i can agree i also believe prayer should not be forced on anyone who is not ready and also it should be kept private.
I FELL THAT THIS WAS A TEST FOR GOS PEPOPLE. Who for some did not stand up and fight against one women who don't belive in anything.. However. GOD AS continued to bless His people because we can still pray sheathed out loud or to ourselves.no one can take that away tron Gods people. SHE all have to stand before God for what she has done. We may have been downbut not out. FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH.
The constitution does not forbid prayer in school or anywhere else. It forbids forced religion on a person or group of persons. The real culprits are the people who stood by and allowed liberals to force their interpretation of the constitution down the throat of America!
We can blame the libs but when it comes down to it we conservative cowards let them get away with it much the same as we are allowing the present administration to take away our freedom of choice.
