Resolved Question

PARENTS: Are/were you involved in your child's schooling? Why or why not?

And if not, what can teachers/other school personnell do to convince you to get involved?

I am a young teacher looking for ways to expand my program to include parents and community. This is important to me so I would love as many ideas as possible. :)

I was (am) involved with my children in school as much as I felt needed.

I chauffered field trips, came in for parties & field day or sent items when requested, I helped my kids with homework and showed up for sporting events that they played in. I went to every parent teacher conference.

If the teacher asked for assistance, I'd be there if I could. I wouldn't just show up at school unless asked as I felt I'd be interrupting or disrupting class.

If you want parental help, I'm thinking all you need to do is ask for it.

Yes I was--always let the kids do their own homework--but was always present for a question--always went to parent teacher conferences--always involved with PTO and assorted fundraisers and functions--went on every field trip-participated in everything that I could--my last child graduated from high school last month--a friend said "aren't you going to miss it?" I said "yes, but, I've been at it for 21 years--now it's time for something for me."

Yes, absolutely...I was always involved....If you are going to have children, you should do it 110%....It doesn't end in the delivery room....It just begins.....
