strength in numbers, everyone has your back and if its too big for you to bring down,
it's not to big for a group to bring down. Plus there is a built in social group and structure.Like (1)

Firstly safety in numbers secondly it gives different animals in the pack a chance to specialize...say one was good at hunting, in a pack it can concentrate on just hunting so that the others can get on with doing other stuff they are good at...it's for this reason that humans have become such a succsesful species, though it has lead to sexcism which is irritating!

Evolution. For example, a single wolf couldnt take down an Elk, but a pack can, not easily, but they still can. A single animal would die alone, from starvation and loneliness. That's why an animal's goal would be to find a mate and create a pack.
