I try to discipline with love and I try to treat them how I would want to be treated if I were in their shoes. That being said, they have to respect and honor the rules!

"Discipline" is the key word - it's not the same as punishment. Discipline is giving them the tools to behave well around others, and manage their own behaviors. Punishment happens afterward, when discipline has broken down - which it sometimes does, even in the best situations. How have I punished is probably the question you're asking. I seldom had to resort to physical punishment - maybe twice. Removing privileges worked well for us. Having real consequences - you do something wrong, you fix it. Punishment should fit the "crime" not be designed to crush the child.

With time-outs, taking away things they like for a few days, and if it is required, a good swatting on the rear end. So far they have all grown up to be respectful, considerate young adults.

I was spanked as a kid. I would avoid it at all costs.

First you have to find out what works best on them, then you have to do what you say and be consistent!
