Politcians Should they pay to play?

I read a fictional book where the richest or most successful people in the country where secretly elected to run the country for 4 years, all their assets were seized and put into the public fund to run the country.
they could not refuse the office or all their assets were kept by the country where they made their fortune in the first place. if the country prospered during their term of office so did they, if the country made a loss so did they after all it was their money they played with. at the end of their term they got to keep a percentage the profit they made.
I love the idea, what do you think?

MizzBlue, Are you serious? So it's all right for a senator or governor to take off to another continent to see their lover and charge it to me and I cannot get health insurance? Hello? Helloooo! They're mostly crooks! Give their life for public office? We gave them that life so I guess we're the idiots for believing all the dung they told us!

Accountability in politics. What a great idea!!

Although instead of the election being secret, I think they should all have to live on a televised reality show for a few months, so everyone could see how they REALLY are. :P

No - I don't think that is right. For someone to give their lives for public office, why should their money be seized?? No - I don't agree ... sorry.
