Professionally is 'experience' overrated or underrated?

From what I've found in the last few years I would say experience is overrated. I have a degree, so I am a reasonably intelligent person, I write my own cv and covering letter, so that proves that I can type and spell, yet I have been turned down for admin jobs (before even being interviewed) just because I can't put on my cv that I have been in an "admin" role! I'm guessing that the people who write the job applications have had admin experience in order to get their role, but for the most part, the advertisements have terrible spelling mistakes and bad grammar too! The worst bit of my job hunting was when I couldn't apply for a Bulk Photocopying job because the advertisement stated "Must have experience in a bulk photocopying role"! That's surely a joke! I would think you could train someone to do this in less than 20 mins!

i think it is perfect. right in the middle. if it were overrated no one would benefit our confessions wouldn't even last a second on showing. too many members would ruin it.

Lately I'd say it is underrated when the primary criteria for hiring has shifted to possessing a degree.

Depends on the field and in what context.
