No, i don't think so. First of all you'd be sitting in the middle, so you if you had a passenger you'd always feel crowded. Second of all, the idea is to put the drivers on the side where the two pass, i.e., you on the left headed one direction and the other person headed towards you is also on their left -- making the two drivers closest to each other, thus making it less likely that you will crash, than it would be if you were both in the middle and less in touch with a sense of where your outside edge is. At least that's how it seems to me. i think it would take a lot to get used to that change.
