Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Not all religions focus on the "to think" part; at least not in the way that "we think for ourselves"; it is not allowed in some religions. Humility seems to be sought but western religions seem to FAKE IT more than make it, imho. Loving, serving and to "want to do right and succeed" SHOULD be the biggest part of what religion can provide.

True religion. Not what the churches spout. That was Emerson's idea, I think. True religion involves a solitary man doing what he thinks is best.

    It could be your religion!
And the principles are what lies behind most organized religion.
I believe in all paths to God.

I disagree because I am not religious. Those who are will agree.

i disagree... i don't care who created the original quote, it's incorrect. the truth about religion is that it is NOT to think, it is to destroy all critical thought. a lot of religious people don't know the meaning of humble.

I think his intent was to say that "God" isn't the basis of a true religion, that man is. He didn't mean religion in the form of churches, I don't think.

Not humble. Humility is the opposite of what it takes to do right, to love, to serve, and to think. The opposite of humility is not arrogance or pride. It is self-esteem.
