My husband has spent, literally, 3/4 of our 17 years out of town, working....when he was at home, he was lying on the couch, doing nothing....'resting' after working all the time....I begged him for years to be home more....or at least to 'be' with us when he was at home.....to be a part of our family.....be involved....instead, he routinely replied with "I work...that is my job....being the provider is my responsibility, and I am fulfilling that"...he did nothing around the home....he did nothing with his kids....I did it all....I had to....

So, I do know the man who 'provides' for his family...but I also know what it has cost me and my children.....being a provider is only part of a man's job, don't you agree? There is so much more to being a father or husband than earning a paycheck.

Since women have also been required to bring in a paycheck, the whole idea than men are somehow 'entitled' to lay on the couch like turds is a little redundant. I was married to such a creep and left. I found it was less taxing to care for the actual children, than it was to care for a self involved man-baby.

Those magical times were also called "when the economy was good". There's actual reasons our culture changes you know, it doesn't just happen.

I know resources have shrunk and this seems more due a capitalist smash-and-grab than women's entry into the workforce. The beef I have is men withholding support from their own children in order to have luxuries whilst their kids lack necessities. Surely this can be legislated.

Oh ****, we completely agree on everything. I like 'capitalist smash and grab' particularly. ******** who refuse to support their children should be strung up and shot. Carry on!

Your man sound awesome. I work hard, too. There are a few men out there who are as grateful as you are, but not many who are appreciate the hard work women put in to mothering and bringing in a wage. You are lucky. :o)

Some men are still providers, and good fathers, the total package. I adore those types of men.
